New Smart Electric Drive: electric city dwellers conquering Paris

Smart has just presented the 100% electric versions of the ForTwo, ForTwo Cabrio and now also the ForFour, all of them with confirmed presence at the Paris Motor Show.

Better autonomy, better performances and lower charging times. These are the great assets of the new Electric Drive range, which in addition to the Smart ForTwo and ForTwo Cabrio will for the first time include the ForFour. The improvements in the datasheet are due to the new electric motor developed in collaboration with Renault, with 83 hp and 160 Nm of torque, associated with a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and a unique gearbox.

It is in the ForTwo version that this engine proves to be more performant. In this model, accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h are accomplished in 11.5 seconds, while the ForTwo Cabrio and ForFour take 11.8 and 12.7 seconds, respectively. The ForTwo also has an advantage in terms of autonomy (160 km), compared to the 155 km of the other versions. The maximum speed (electronically limited) is the same for everyone: 130 km/h.

As for charging time, Smart guarantees that it only takes 2h30m to reach a full charge, which corresponds to about half the time required in relation to the previous version. However, with the new 22 kW charger (optional) it will be possible to fully charge the battery in just 45 minutes.
