Nürburgring TOP 100: the fastest of the «Green Hell»

Over the past 10 years, many brands have made the Nürburgring their second home. Circuit that serves as the basis for hundreds of engineers and brands, and where technical solutions dictated by increasingly complex and complete computer algorithms are put to the test. Because no matter how developed the computer programs are, nothing replaces the ultimate experience in the field. The Nürburgring is without a doubt «the proof of the nine».

Demanding, unpredictable and merciless, this 20,832 km long, 73-curve German track (in the Nordschleife configuration) has been the scene of some of the biggest rivalries among manufacturers in recent times. Being fast at the Nürburgring means more sales and more prestige.

The list we are now publishing, provided by the well-known Nürburgringlaptimes website, contains the 100 fastest production models ever in the "green hell" – unfriendly (but well-deserved) nickname due to the intense vegetation that surrounds the entire route – therefore, the competition models do not enter this list. Among other models, we can highlight the #74 place on this list, occupied by the Volkswagen Golf Clubsport S. A «simple» model with front-wheel drive and 2.0 Turbo engine that still managed a faster time than other more exotic models like the Lamborghini Murcielago or the Ford GT.

In the first two places on the list there are two Radical models – which, although they can be used on public roads, are actually competition models approved for the road. Rounding out the Top 3 comes the first limited-production car, the Porsche 918 Spyder. Already above the 7-minute barrier appears the first truly production car, the Nissan GT-R. Far from being a peaceful list, there are many flaws in the present times. But there is something that is peaceful: the Nürburgring is the quintessential place to test not only sports cars, but all cars, whether they are family cars, SUV's or any other segment.
