The 2017 Barcelona Automobile Salon is preparing to receive, among others, the 600 BMS concept car, a tribute to the original SEAT 600.
The iconic SEAT 600 celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2017, a date that could not go unnoticed. As such, the Spanish brand will take advantage of the “in house” show – Automobile Barcelona 2017 – to present its latest prototype, the SEAT 600 BMS (on).
More than an exercise in style, it's a tribute to the original model (below), taking inspiration from the SEAT 600D with retractable roof. Like the first generation, the 600 BMS has inverted opening doors and keeps the canvas roof retractable.
The vintage look of the bodywork is enhanced by metallic gray Twist, with orange decals. Even the “600” emblem has evolved, presenting a more contemporary interpretation. The 600 BMS retains the original wheels and brakes, and the interior has leather upholstery with orange stitching and leather side details.
The SEAT 600 is one of the most important models in the brand's history. Launched in 1957, this was only SEAT's second production model. And like most of the models produced up to 1982, it was developed under the responsibility of Fiat.

In addition to being a compact, minimalist and utilitarian model, the SEAT 600 had a very affordable price (65,000 pesetas), a factor that contributed to its popularity. In fact, the success was such that some say that the Seat 600 was decisive in the process of recovery of the Spanish economy (“el milagro español”). Isidre Lopez Badenas, responsible for SEAT Historical Cars, called him “the Carocha of the Spaniards”…The 600 BMS will be accompanied at the brand's stand by some of the new models in the SEAT range: Ateca FR, which will make its international debut, and the new Ibiza and Leon Cupra. Automobile Barcelona 2017 runs from 11 to 21 May.
