Solo R is an electric single-seater with an eye on performance

The Hall of Vancouver, Canada, brings us this week not one but two 100% electric novelties. The 3-wheeler Solo R is one of them.

Electra Meccanica is a small Canadian brand founded in 2015 that, like so many other newly created brands, is focusing on electric vehicles. But Electra models stand out for their low weight, low center of gravity, and in the case of the Ground (below) for having only three wheels.

The first Solo units have not yet come off the production lines – the first deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of next year – but Electra is already looking at the next models. One of them is precisely the sports version of Solo, the soil R (highlighted).

Compared to the base model, the Solo R received competition tyres, new wheels, an improved braking system and, most importantly, a new battery pack. For now, performance remains a secret from the gods, but taking into account the 8 seconds (0-100 km/h) and 120 km/h (maximum speed) of the base version, more competitive numbers are to be expected.

In addition to the Solo R, Electra Meccanica took the opportunity to present the designs of a completely new model, which goes by the name of tofino . As you can see below, this sportier-style electric roadster – looking like a cross between a Mazda MX-5 and a Porsche - is also betting on performance: the brand announces accelerations from 0-100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The autonomy is fixed at 400 km (in a single charge).

As for the price, Electra Meccanica is asking for 50,000 Canadian dollars, which is equivalent to around 35 thousand euros, and the first deliveries are scheduled for 2019.
