Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ Station. The new queen of "green hell"

Anonim

More than two tonnes in weight, power over 600 hp and a luggage compartment capable of carrying half the IKEA. Even so, the powerful and versatile Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ Station may not be, at the outset, the most natural choice for a track-day on the Nürburgring. But is…

The German publication Sport Auto has taken this highly-vitaminized family proposal from the star brand to Nordschleife. And it couldn't have gone better, as it left there with the title of fastest van. The E63 S 4Matic+ reached the time of 7 minutes and 45.19 seconds.

A time that commands respect. This huge truck weighing over 2000 kg managed to be faster in two seconds than the Porsche 911 (997) GT3 RS. Naturally "destroyed" by a large margin the SEAT Leon ST Cupra, the previous starter, who had managed a respectable 7 minutes and 58 seconds.

The specifications

The Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ Station comes equipped with a strong arsenal — which isn't warlike but almost ballistic! The engine is the well-known 4.0 liter twin turbo V8, in a specification with 612 hp (between 5750 and 6500 rpm), and a maximum torque of 850 Nm (between 2500 and 4500 rpm). Almost enough numbers to affect the Earth's rotation. All this power is transmitted to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

It's not light. The 2070 kg of weight is a very high value, but not enough to achieve excellent performances. It only takes 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h and the top speed, without a limiter, exceeds 300 km/h.

And as you can see, it's not just fast in a straight line. The time achieved in the record was made with factory tires that have dimensions of 265/35 R20 at the front and 295/30 R20 at the rear.
