Porsche considers "basic" version of the 911 only for purists

Anonim

Remember the Porsche 911 R? Oh yeah (see here). A limited-production version of the 911, revivalist of the “original” 911 R, aimed at driving enthusiasts: light, atmospheric engine, manual gearbox, low downforce, brakes and suspensions from the GT3 RS.

It had everything, without the superfluous. A carefree version of the timer and concerned only with driving pleasure. The “hype” surrounding the model was so great that the production limited to 911 units sold out faster than the depot of a Bugatti Chiron. And look, the gas in Chiron's tank disappears fast. Very fast…

A money maker

Ever since Porsche learned how to make money in 1996 with Toyota's help – we really have to tell this story here at Razão Automóvel! – that never stopped. Currently, Porsche is one of the most profitable brands in the world.

Before this model (image below), the scenario was almost apocalyptic. However everything changed.

Unloved by some, it was the 996 that helped Porsche get back on its feet.

Among other changes, Porsche has since started giving its customers exactly what they want – even if it's an SUV. And it was quite clear from the acceptance of the Porsche 911 R – after 2 months this model had already quadrupled its value – that there is an increasing demand for models with these characteristics.

the good news

Speaking to Autocar, during the presentation of the new Porsche Cayenne (all details here), Michael Steiner, responsible for R&D at Porsche, said that the brand "looks kindly to the possibility of launching a more «purist» true sports car no production limit”.

But he said more:

We find that there are more and more customers interested in the pleasure of driving, in models that are easy to explore. (…) In pure sports cars there is no need to limit production.

Steiner has not confirmed whether we are talking about a more «simple and pure» version of the Porsche 911, nor whether this model will be launched during the current generation 991.2.

What was very clear in his statements is that in the future, those who were looking / looking for a state-of-the-art 911 as pure and analog as is possible today, may soon have one in their garage. And without having to spend the fortunes they are currently asking for the 911 R. Amen.
