Rumors ended: Audi R8 with V10 engines to the end

Anonim

Neither V6 nor V8 nor any other engine. The project director of the Audi R8 confirmed that the renewed version of the model will only feature the V10 engine. The question about which engine would replace the 4.2 l V8 that powered the first R8 had been plaguing the minds of fans of the brand since the arrival of the second generation of Audi's supercar in 2015.

Now we have an answer: the R8 will only use the V10 engine and none else. For some time now, there have been rumors that an R8 with the 2.9 l twin-turbo V6 engine used by the Audi RS4 or Porsche Panamera could be being prepared.

Meanwhile, Audi has released the renewed version of the R8 and there is still no sign of the V6, but the rumors have not dissipated. But now, supercar project director Bjorn Friedrich has decided to put an end to speculation in statements to Car Throttle, saying there won't be any V6s and that the V10 is “the best engine for the car… let's stay true to the V10".

The latest engine in the model?

Taking into account that Audi does not seem to be planning a new generation of the R8, the supercar of the brand should, it seems, say goodbye to the market equipped with the atmospheric V10 engine under the hood.

In the last renovation to the R8, Audi took the opportunity to give more power to the V10. Thus, the base version of the 5.2 l with ten cylinders in V started to deliver 570 hp (compared to the previous 540 hp), while the more powerful version now has 620 hp instead of the previous 610 hp of power it had previously.

The renewed version of the Audi R8 is expected to arrive at the stands in the first quarter of 2019, but there is still no information regarding the prices of the German super sports car.
