Everything you need to know about the new four-cylinder GR Supra

Anonim

long awaited, the Toyota GR Supra 2.0 has already arrived in Europe, in other words, the version with four-cylinder engine, establishing itself as the access variant to the Japanese sports car range.

Like the B58, the inline six cylinder we already know from the GR Supra, the new four-cylinder engine also comes from BMW.

In this article, we introduce you to the new four-cylinder Toyota GR Supra 2.0.

The engine of the GR Supra

Starting with the engine, the great highlight of the GR Supra we are talking about today, the B48 consists of a 2.0 l, tetra-cylinder equipped with a turbo twin scroll (a solution already adopted by the variant with a six-cylinder engine).

With regard to numbers, the power is fixed at 258 hp, appearing between 5000 rpm and 6000 rpm, and maximum torque at 400 Nm, being available between 1550 rpm and 4000 rpm.

This allows the four-cylinder Toyota GR Supra 2.0 to reach 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2s and reach 250 km/h top speed (electronically limited).

Finally, in terms of consumption and emissions, Toyota announces values between 5.9 and 6.3 l/100 km and between 135 and 143 g/km of CO2, but these are still correlated NEDC values (approved according to the WTLP protocol, but with the values obtained converted back to NEDC, an option still legally in force in many European markets).

At the transmission level, power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF.

Dynamic above all

With the block being much more compact (there are always two less cylinders), the new Toyota GR Supra 2.0 weighs 100 kg less than the six-cylinder GR Supra — and best of all, much of the reduction happened on the front axle .

According to Toyota engineers, achieving the desired 50:50 weight distribution has become easier. And it also benefits from the golden ratio of 1.55 (values between 1.5-1.6 is ideal), in other words, the ideal ratio between the wheelbase and the rear track (2.47 m and 1.589 m, respectively), which the brand defines as allowing the “best balance between agility and behavior”.
