With the cabriolet variant placed in the drawer, Auto Express advances that the Japanese brand's management has already approved the production of a sedan version, derived from the Toyota GT-86 sports coupé.

After rumors about the launch of two variants, one convertible and the other shooting brake of the Toyota GT-86 – tested by Razão Automóvel at Kartodromo de Palmela, read here – the publication Auto Express advances now that a saloon variant is soon to be launched of this acclaimed Japanese model.

In addition to the two additional doors, this saloon will have another 100 mm of wheelbase – in order to gain space in the rear seats.

This sedan would use the same engine as the coupe, a 2.0 boxer four-cylinder and 200hp of power. However, there could still be a hybrid version, with the same unit as the Yaris Hybrid-R Concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September. The Toyota GT-86 Sedan would thus have a combined power of 272hp and on the other hand would reduce consumption and polluting emissions by about 20%.

It is speculated that Toyota's new “darn for fun” saloon, with a name to be defined, will be presented in March of next year at the Geneva Motor Show. It could go on sale at the end of 2015. We will closely monitor developments here and on our Facebook.
