We tested the Nissan Qashqai, the champion of enough

Anonim

What is the most balanced version of the Nissan Qashqai and why is this model such a big seller? These two questions were the starting point for another test of Reason Automobile on YouTube.

I've tested practically all versions of the Nissan Qashqai, except for the Acenta versions (base version). But for the rest, I've tested every engine on practically every possible level of equipment. And with all this experience I decided to do something different…

Instead of talking about each Nissan Qashqai individually, I decided to analyze the pros and cons of each version and the characteristics that cut across the entire range, in order to ultimately choose the most balanced version of all. All the details in this video:

Competitive price

As I promised in the video, here is a link to the Nissan Qashqai price list. If you are looking for an SUV, you will easily find that compared to its direct competitors, the Nissan Qashqai is almost always the most affordable. But this search for the most competitive price pays itself…

There are details on the Nissan Qashqai's interior, such as the solidity of the panels or the joining of some plastics, that are still not convincing.

On the positive side, there is a good supply of equipment from the N-Connecta versions, which already have everything that is really needed — see the full list of equipment. But if you want a more special Nissan Qashqai, it is fully justified opting for the Tekna version. The price surcharge will have little impact on an eventual monthly installment and it is worth it.

In dynamic terms, as I had the opportunity to explain in the video, the Nissan Qashqai's behavior is correct. Without exhilarating — nor is that its purpose — it presents neutral reactions and satisfactory rolling comfort. It is safe in all reactions and has a very complete driving aid package. Nissan calls it “Smart Protection Shield” and includes items such as the intelligent anti-collision system (with pedestrian detection), traffic sign reader, intelligent headlights and lane maintenance alert. This in the N-Connecta version, because if we go up to the Tekna version we gain even more systems (see the complete equipment list).

Since 2017, the Nissan Qashqai has adopted the brand's latest technology package, we are talking about the ProPilot system that includes adaptive cruise-control and a very competent lane maintenance system

Full range of engines

As for engines, my preference is for the «old» 1.5 dCi engine — which equips models of the Nissan, Renault, Dacia and Mercedes-Benz brands — and which despite having been active for several years, keeps its qualities intact: availability , low consumption and adjusted price.

The 1.2 DIG-T engine can also be a good option if you do a few kilometers per year. It's affordable, low-cost, and the most discreet. As for the acquisition cost, it can be cheaper, but it also has a lower residual value. As for the 1.6 dCi engine, it is better than the 1.5 dCi engine in everything except price and consumption. Do you really need the additional 20 horsepower? It's best to try them both before you decide.

Nissan Qashqai

the champion of enough

Other than price, the Nissan Qashqai isn't best-in-class on just about any item, but it's good enough on just about everyone. For example, there are more successful products than the Nissan Qashqai in this segment, such as the Peugeot 3008, SEAT Ateca, Hyundai Tucson or Ford Kuga, but none sell as much as the Qashqai. Why?

Nissan Qashqai

As someone once said, "the good is the enemy of the great" and the Nissan Qashqai is a master at this game of offering enough for a fair price.

A game that for me makes no sense when we talk about versions whose prices exceed 35 000 euros. At this price level we no longer want something enough, we want something more. That's why, for me, the Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi Tekna is the more balanced version.

It has an extensive list of equipment, a competent engine and an interior space suitable for the whole family. And since I'm talking about price, know that Nissan has a discount campaign of 2500 euros and another 1500 euros of take-back.
