The birth is difficult. After several concepts, ads, spy photos, more prototypes, we finally see the new Toyota Supra of production in “flesh and bone”, but even so, not yet definitively, hiding under a graphic and polyhedral camouflage.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed was the chosen stage for the public and dynamic debut of the Toyota Supra, walking along the famous ramp.
As we have already mentioned in previous opportunities, the new Toyota Supra is the result of a partnership between Toyota and BMW, which will also result in the new BMW Z4. Both models will share the same base and the Bavarian in-line six-cylinder block and transmission , even though Tetsuya Tada, Toyota's chief engineer, has already stated that both cars will have different characters, justified by different calibrations, as well as specific suspension solutions.
In other words, expect a six-cylinder in-line — the tradition continues in the Supra lineage — with 3000 cm3, debiting figures around 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque; and an estimated weight of around 1500 kg.
What we can also see is how compact the new Supra is — more compact than its predecessor, and even more compact than the Toyota GT86. We will have to wait for the final specifications to confirm this. The start of commercialization of the new model is scheduled (only) for 2019.
