Hyundai Elevate is a Hyundai with… legs to walk

What do you say if we tell you about a car with wheels attached to robotic legs? Probably what comes to mind are scenes from movies like "War of the Worlds", "Star Wars" or even "Relentless Terminator", but don't worry, the Hyundai Elevate wants to do anything but annihilate the human species.

The idea behind the creation of this strange vehicle was Hyundai's desire to create a vehicle capable of working in situations of search and rescue, humanitarian aid and that can go where normal vehicles cannot.

Hence, the brand defines it as the first Ultimate Mobility Vehicle (UMV).

The big news of this concept that Hyundai will bring to CES is the fact that it uses four robotic legs with wheels at the ends. Thanks to this solution, the Hyundai Elevate now has a capacity for progression that hardly any other vehicle can match (not even the Land Rover Defender or Jeep Wrangler).

Hyundai believes that Elevate could prove to be a solution to help people with reduced mobility.

Various bodies for various functions

The concept is based on Hyundai's latest modular electrical platform. This allows you to install different types of bodywork according to the functions that need to be performed.

In addition to each leg of the Hyundai Elevate being equipped with a wheel, they also have an individual electric motor. Thus, it can move on wheels (with suspension in active or passive mode) or walk, imitating the way a mammal, reptile or even omnidirectional movement, in a total of five levels of mobility.

Built on Hyundai's modular platform for electric vehicles, Elevate can be fitted with a variety of bodies.

Thanks to robotic legs, Hyundai claims that Elevate is not only capable of scaling a 1.5 m wall but also of overcoming a ground fault (eg a hole) of the same dimension.
