There is a new radar at the service of the GNR. Extremely portable, captures excesses beyond 300 km/h

GNR has a new “weapon” against speeding. After the average speed radar, Portuguese roads started to be monitored by a new GNR radar that stands out, above all, for its versatility.

Capable of detecting speeding vehicles at a distance of almost two kilometers (the range of its predecessor was 100 meters), this radar uses laser technology, being more “accurate, precise and effective”. In addition to all this, it is much lighter, weighing just 2 kg compared to the 30 kg of its predecessor.

The new GNR radar is also capable of making a small video with 20 to 30 frames, then choosing the clearest one to serve as proof of the infraction, and of “catching” vehicles at speeds up to 320 km/h. To give you an idea, the previous model only took a picture of the offender and couldn't capture speeds above 250 km/h.

Ease of use is an asset

It was difficult for this new device used by GNR to be any easier to use. In practice, all the GNR military that is using this radar has to do is simply program the equipment, indicating the maximum speed of the road where the surveillance action is being carried out.

After that you can choose to manually use the radar, pointing it to a specific car or mounting it on a simple tripod. Unlike its predecessor — which had to be fixed, at track level and could only be used on straights — this new radar can work at any angle, be used on curves, from viaducts or on guardrails.

Able to control speed without capturing two vehicles at the same time, this new GNR radar can also be used on motorcycles or in GNR patrol vehicles, being able to calculate the speed of vehicles not only when they approach but also when they are approaching. away from the device.

Although it has not yet reached all GNR detachments, this new radar has been used by this security force since the beginning of the year, having already detected 10 755 offenders.
