Hummer is back, but not in the way you think

Anonim

After about nine years "disappeared", the name Hummer will return to GM's offer, but not as many expected. Is that instead of being used to designate an independent brand as it happened in the past, the name will be used to designate a 100% electric GMC model, the Hummer EV.

For now, the final shape of the returning Hummer remains to be seen, with the teaser revealed by GMC and the model ad that was shown at the Super Bowl and which even features basketball player LeBron James as the protagonist focusing exclusively on in the front section.

From what we could see of it, despite the total electrification, the GMC Hummer EV will continue to feature straight shapes, with the six vertical and illuminated grille and square LED headlights standing out.

Finally, although there is still no official confirmation, the most likely is that the returning Hummer will present himself as a pick-up. If this is confirmed, the new GMC model will be another competitor for Tesla Cybertruck.

what is already known

For starters, the first certainty about the new GMC Hummer EV is that it will be unveiled on May 20th. Despite this, the arrival on the market should only take place in the fall of 2021.

In technical terms, GMC says that the new Hummer EV should have around 1000 hp of power, 15,000 Nm of torque (at the wheel) and will be able to accelerate up to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 3s , numbers that better match a hypersport than a successor to a series of off-road “monsters”.

For the rest, issues such as battery capacity, number of engines or autonomy remain unknown.
