“We want to be the greenest SUV brand in the world” — the statement was made by the president of Jeep, Christian Meunièr, at an event in New Zealand and allows us to foresee the future of the North American brand for years to come.
With plans to electrify its entire SUV range by 2022 (electrified versions of all its models), Jeep has in the Renegade PHEV the spearhead of such an ambitious project.
The Jeep Renegade PHEV
To get electrified, the Renegade PHEV received a 136 hp electric motor. This is located on the rear axle and has been fitted to an altered version of the rear sub-frame of the all-wheel-drive variant of the renegade.
Associated with this electric motor, and with the task of driving the front wheels, comes a four-cylinder 1.3 Turbo gasoline engine with 180 hp. This is associated with a six-speed automatic transmission and also has an alternator/generator that recharges the battery.
The end result of the combination of the two engines is a combined power of 240 hp — making him the most potent Renegade we can find. As for autonomy in electric mode, the Jeep points to a total of about 50 km.

For now, the size of the batteries is not known, but it is known that they are under the rear seat and the transmission tunnel. It is also known that the Renegade PHEV is about 120 kg heavier than the other Renegade.
In addition, the Renegade PHEV also saw its luggage compartment lose around 15 liters (originally it had 351 liters), all because it had to mount some electronic components on the luggage compartment wall.
Inside the Renegade PHEV, everything remained practically the same.
Plug-in hybrid but always a Jeep
Although the Renegade PHEV is a plug-in hybrid, Jeep has not forgotten the tradition of offering good off-road performance.
Therefore, the American brand stated that there will be a “TrailRated” version with a ford capacity of 60 cm. Adding to this factor, Jeep also revealed that the rear electric motor will be able to deliver 259 Nm in a very controlled way, helping the progression across the terrain.

For now, it is not known when the Renegade PHEV will reach the national market or what its price will be.
