The Vila Real Circuit's internationalization goals have been known for a long time. With the city of Porto putting aside the holding of the WTCC in 2015, an opportunity opened up.
Rui Santos, Mayor of Vila RealInternationalizing the Circuit was one of the objectives of the Chamber and the FPAK for the next few years. The opportunity arose and we didn't want to miss it, thanks to the efforts of all the entities involved.
The Circuit, inaugurated in 1931, receives the WTCC in 2015 and the race is already assured for the next 3 years, without interruptions. Vila Real City Council was in “tough negotiations” with FPAK, Eurosport Events and the WTCC which allowed, together with the support of regional partners, public and private, to ensure the completion of the event.
The mayor of Vila Real also believes that it will be possible to reach revenues in excess of 5 million euros with this event, which makes the investment that will be necessary in the Vila Real International Circuit, namely in the paddock and surrounding infrastructures, viable.
