At a time when a lot is said about imported used cars, mainly because the European Commission put the Portuguese State in court due to the ISV calculation formula, we bring you the numbers of used cars imported to Portugal last year.
According to ACAP, in 2019 a total of 79,459 imported used passenger vehicles were registered in Portugal, a figure that corresponds to 35.5% of new car sales, which in 2019 stood at 223,799 units.
As happened with new vehicles, also among the imported used ones the preference fell to Diesel engines. However, in this case, the market share of vehicles with diesel engines is well above the 48.6% achieved among new vehicles.

According to ACAP, of the 79,459 used vehicles that were imported into Portugal in 2019, 63,567 (or 80%) were diesel cars. This means that among imported used cars only 14% (11 124 units) were gasoline cars.
Finally, the data revealed by ACAP reveal that the majority of used vehicles imported into our country have cylinder capacity between 1251 cm3 and 1750 cm3, a value that somehow contradicts the idea that most imported used vehicles are high displacement models.
