Audi's electric SUV for 2018 already has a name

As if there were any doubts, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler confirmed again the production version of the prototype Audi e-tron quattro (in the pictures), the first “zero emissions” model of the Ingolstadt brand. Speaking to Autocar, Rupert Stadler unveiled the name chosen for this electric SUV: Audi e-tron.

“It's something comparable to the first Audi quattro, which was known only as the quattro. In the long term, the name e-tron will be synonymous with a range of electric models”, explained the German official. This means that later, the name e-tron will appear together with the traditional nomenclature of the brand – A5 e-tron, A7 e-tron, etc.

Audi e-tron quattro concept

The Audi e-tron will use three electric motors – two on the rear axle, one on the front axle – together with a lithium-ion battery for a total of 500 km of autonomy (value not yet confirmed).

After the SUV, Audi is planning to launch an electric saloon, a premium model that should compete with the Tesla Model S but not the Audi A9. "We have noticed a growth in demand for this type of concept, especially in large cities."
