While some electric models have replaced the traditional exterior mirrors for cameras — like the little Honda and —, the unprecedented and ultramodern Mercedes-Benz EQS did not follow this trend. But why?
According to Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler, in an interview with Automotive News Europe, revealed that the decision was due to the fact that some drivers get nauseated when looking at a screen that shows the image of the camera instead of the rear view mirrors.
In addition, the CEO of Daimler also stated that, although the cameras allow an effective reduction of the drag at higher speeds, at low speed they consume almost as much energy as they save.
Finally, Ola Källenius also pointed out that Mercedes-Benz does not like to add technology to its models “just because”, even when it comes to its new electric standard-bearer, the EQS.
