What differentiates a «petrolhead» from the others…?

Today, Ricardo Correia, an active “petrolhead” at Razão Automóvel, brings us this profound opinion article:

It is with great pleasure and expectation that I have been following Razão Automóvel virtually since its inception, I have watched the evolution and constant improvements that the page has undergone, and therefore, I cannot hide my enormous pleasure when I received the proposal to write a while ago. an opinion piece for this "our" site. That said, thanks for the opportunity!

I'm a huge fan of anything that has four wheels, so don't be surprised by my unbiased view of the automotive world. As a child, for example, my parents used to put me at the window to watch the cars go by just so they could have a few hours of peace. Once nobody believes...

What makes us flesh and blood men fall in love with carbon and aluminum? What makes a piece forged by the dirty way with noise, heat and a lot of force/cm2, awaken in us such a feeling of desire? When talking about this, the first thing that crosses my mind is to pick up a tommy gun and go straight to the first bank I find...

We PetrolHeads spend hours turning videos of records, races, accidents, we strive to be the most informed guys in the world. We trade hours of fun for hours in the garage and despite all this, cars are the last thing on our minds before we fall asleep—in dreams it's not even good to talk!

This… this is a passion! A passion for an art that only those who have it understand.

Experts say that an object to be art cannot serve any purpose other than this one. Well… I know that for common drivers, the car takes people and goods from point A to point B, but for us, drivers, the car makes a circuit from point A to point A passing through B, creating art by every inch of this route.

The car is one of the rare objects with which we can actually form an emotional bond. In fact, it's not a connection, it's a relationship. Our car is an extension of ourselves, it characterizes us. Ours, in particular the first, is the greatest travel companion, adventurer (pardon the cliché), or simply, as Jay Leno said: “It’s our car, our freedom. It takes us to the next town. Oh meu deus! The girls in the next town are so much hotter than in our town”.

For all that, it's impossible not to like ours, it's impossible to finish parking it and when we go out don't give it a pat of love and think “Machine!”. And even when we've moved a few meters away from the car, we look back again just to make sure everything is fine, every time, without exception.

Our car never breaks down, it has it's personality; we're not going to put gas on him, we're going to give him a drink and he's not going to fix it either, he's going to be treated. Some call this personification an obsession… idiots! This personification separates the drivers from the drivers, what we are is passionate about!

Dear fellow pilots, with what I write, I intend to show what unites us all, our passion. We are a strange species, “obsessed”, but for me, although I still don't understand why, it only makes sense that we follow it with a surrendered soul.

Let's keep arguing, burning tires, tearing corners, doing pedestrians, doing marathons in front of the TV watching 24 hours of a race and listening to the "bosses" saying that we spend too much time back from the car (they say! ). Let's continue to live our passion!

P.S.— Despite being from a (large) game, there is a video that emanates car passion. Enjoy!
