If there was a BMW M3 Diesel it would be this Alpina D3 S

Anonim

After having unveiled the Alpina B3 Touring some time ago, the German manufacturer “returned the load” and presented the Alpine D3 S in the sedan and van variants.

Designed as a kind of “BMW M3 Diesel”, the D3 S uses a vitamin-filled version of the B57, the 3.0 l biturbo that equips the BMW M340d.

If on the M340d this engine produces 340 hp and 700 Nm, in the Alpina D3 S these values rise to 355 hp and 730 Nm respectively.

Mild-hybrid, a debut in Alpina

Bearing in mind that the B57 was designed to work in association with a mild-hybrid 48V system, the D3 S is the first Alpina model to feature this technology that offers, under certain conditions, up to 11 hp more.

As far as the transmission is concerned, the D3 S continues to rely on an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF and the all-wheel drive system from BMW. The xDrive system was not immune to the changes made by Alpina, now sending more power to the rear axle.

All of this allows the Alpina D3 S to reach 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6s — 4.8s in the case of the van — and reach 273 km/h — 270 km/h in the case of the van — maximum speed.

What else has changed?

In addition to the traditional aesthetic details that we are used to by Alpina, such as (discreet) aerodynamic appendages, the new exhaust, decals or wheels that can go from 20” to 22”, the other differences of the Alpina D3 S do not are visible.

We are, of course, talking about the new chassis setup, the new locking rear differential, the braking system inherited from the Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo and also the adaptive suspension already used by the Alpina B3 and which is complemented with a set of Eibach springs.
