named Aesthetics Progressive Luxury , the new sculpture in the Mercedes-Benz sculpture series that the star brand has been presenting since 2010 — with “Aesthetics No. 1” —, aims not only to reflect “the perfect look of every EQ vehicle”, but also to pay homage to the aerodynamic vehicle with which Rudolf Caracciola set, in 1938, a world speed record.
At the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz W125 Rekordwagen and its 5.5 l and 725 hp V12, the German driver reached 432.7 km/h on the autobahn between Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt, thus setting a new speed record on a public road, which he would remain unbeatable for 79 years, until a Swedish “monster” overtook him.
It was from the Mercedes-Benz W125 Rekordwagen, one of the “Silver Arrows”, that the inspiration to define the aesthetic of this sculpture came, evoking the purist style of the original model's 1930s, while giving it a new and contemporary interpretation.
The dynamic optical effect given by the fragmentation of the body towards the rear stands out, as if these surface segments were captured by an imaginary air flow and transported by them.
This sculpture wants to prepare us for the aesthetics of the future family of EQ models — starting with the EQC in 2019 — which will share with Aesthetics Progressive Luxury, according to the brand, the purity of form reflected by continuous and uninterrupted style.
And just as happened with Aesthetics A, seen in 2017, it will be able to foresee a future model, perhaps an electric silver arrow for the century. XXI?
