New Audi A5 and S5 Sportback officially unveiled

The Ingolstadt brand did not want to wait for the Paris Motor Show and unveiled the two new members of the Sportback family.

Seven years after the launch of the first A5 Sportback, Audi finally introduces us to the second generation of the five-door coupe, with new features across the board. As you would expect, in aesthetic terms, the two new models adopt the latest design lines of the German brand, also present in the new Audi A5 Coupé (also based on the MLB platform), where the more muscular forms stand out, the shaped bonnet of “V” and the slimmer taillights.

Naturally, in this five-door version, the big difference is the increased space in the rear seats, which requires a longer wheelbase (from 2764 mm to 2824 mm). As such, both the Audi A5 Sportback and the S5 Sportback present themselves with more familiar features (the room capacity has been improved) but without harming the sporty spirit – despite the increase in dimensions, the brand guarantees that with 1,470 kg of weight this it is the lightest model in the segment.

As outside, inside the cabin, the two models follow in the footsteps of the Audi A5 Coupé, highlighting the Virtual Cockpit technology, comprising a 12.3-inch screen with a new generation graphics processor, infotainment system and driving aids.

As for the range of engines, in addition to the two TFSI and three TDI engines, with powers between 190 and 286 hp, the novelty is the option of g-tron (natural gas) input based on the 2.0 TFSI block, with 170 hp and 270 hp Nm of torque – the brand guarantees a 17% improvement in performance and a 22% reduction in consumption. Unfortunately this g-tron version will not be available on the national market.

Depending on the engine, the Audi A5 Sportback is available with a six-speed manual, seven-speed S tronic or eight-speed tiptronic, as well as the front or all-wheel drive system (quattro).

In the vitamin S5 Sportback version, as in the S5 Coupé, we find the new 3.0 liter V6 TFSI engine, which produces 356 hp and 500 Nm. With the eight-speed tiptronic gearbox and all-wheel drive, the S5 Sportback takes just 4.7 seconds from 0 at 100 km/h, before reaching a maximum (limited) speed of 250 km/h. Both models are scheduled for presentation at the next Paris Motor Show, while their arrival in European markets is scheduled for the beginning of next year.
