Lamborghini Urus: new SUV to start production in April

The wait was long, but the CEO of the 'Bull Brand' finally revealed what we all wanted to hear: Lamborghini's first SUV will go into production in two months' time.

2017 is going to be a big year for Lamborghini – or so Stefano Domenicali hopes. In an interview with Digital Trends, the Italian brand's CEO revealed some details about the new SUV, whose production is about to start at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.

“Production will start in April, although the plan is to start with a pre-production model. As you know, this is a completely new process, so the first cars will be prototypes. It will be a very delicate period, which is why 2017 is such an important year for us.”

Without wanting to reveal great details, Domenicali also confirmed that “Urus” will even be the name of the production model. As for semi-autonomous driving technologies, the Italian businessman did not hide that this is inevitable, as are hybrid engines.

“It is something that will be part of Lamborghini, without a doubt. Our expectation is that the first hybrid will be a variant of Urus, the second to reach the market”.

Although it has defined maximum performance as the main objective of the new Urus – after all, it is a Lamborghini we are talking about – the Italian brand has ensured that its SUV will also have off-road capabilities. That said, and knowing that the brand predicts great commercial success, the bar could hardly be higher.

The presentation of the Lamborghini Urus will only take place in 2018.
