Mercedes-Benz's commitment to electrification is nothing new, having even led to the creation of the Mercedes-EQ subbrand. Now, after its creation, this sub-brand is getting ready to see not one, not two, not even three, but six (!) new models arrive by 2022.

The first of all models in this new electric family will be the EQS. Expected to arrive in the first half of 2021, it will be produced at the Sindelfingen factory in Germany.

The EQS will still be followed in 2021 by the EQA (which will be produced at the Rastatt plant in Germany and in Beijing, China) and the EQB which will be produced in Hungary and China.

Mercedes-Benz Electric

Finally, also scheduled for 2021 is the EQE, an E-Class-sized electric sedan that will be produced in Bremen, Germany, and Beijing, China.

And then?

After the launch of these four models, Mercedes-EQ will see two electric SUVs arriving in 2022 that will be positioned above the EQC. A kind of SUV variant of the EQE and EQS, these SUVs will be produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, USA.

With the launch of these six models by the end of 2022 and with the existing EQC and EQV, Mercedes-Benz will have a total of eight 100% electric models in 2022.

Obviously, this investment in the production of electric models requires an increase in the production of batteries. Therefore, the German brand is preparing to create a network of factories to produce batteries that will cover three continents.

Mercedes-Benz EQB

The Mercedes-Benz EQB is already in the testing phase.

With the goal that, in 2030, more than half of its sales correspond to hybrids and 100% electric models, Mercedes-Benz will produce batteries in countries such as Germany, China, the USA, Poland and even Thailand.

For Jörg Burzer, member of the Board of Directors of Mercedes-Benz AG, Production and Supply Chain, this “productive epic” highlights “the strength and competence of Mercedes-Benz factories around the world”.
