This could very well be the "spiritual successor" of the McLaren F1

With over 900 hp of maximum power, the McLaren P1 is by far McLaren's most powerful production model. But not for much longer.

This is because the British brand currently has a new project in hand – code-named BP23 (acronym for “Bespoke Project 2, with 3 seats”) – which will give rise to a new model for McLaren's Ultimate Series. Or in other words, “McLaren's most powerful and dynamic production ever”.

“There is the exception of Bugatti, all those who make high-performance cars make them for the circuits”.

Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren

On the one hand, the McLaren P1 was clearly developed with track performance in mind, in this case all dynamics, suspension and chassis will be optimized for road driving . The BP23 benefits from a new platform being developed at the Sheffield plant.

Pinnacle of technology made in Woking

Until 2022, McLaren wants at least half of its models to be hybrids . As such, the BP23 will be the first to use the brand's new generation of hybrid engines, in this case a 4.0 liter V8 block – the same as the new McLaren 720S – with the help of a new electric unit.

In addition to the central driving position, another similarity to the McLaren F1 is the number of units that will be produced: 106 . Still, Mike Flewitt refuses that this is a direct successor to McLaren, but rather a tribute to the iconic F1.

Once produced, each unit will be delivered to McLaren Special Operations (MSO), responsible for customizing the car to each customer's taste. As you can guess, the BP23 is not within the reach of all portfolios: each model has an estimated value of 2.30 million euros, and the first deliveries are planned for 2019.
