McLaren Senna GTR LM. The (new) tribute to the victory at Le Mans in 1995

Anonim

A few months after unveiling the McLaren 720S Le Mans, a tribute to the F1 GTR victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, the British brand once again wanted to celebrate 25 years of its historic achievement and unveiled five units of the McLaren Senna GTR LM.

Ordered by customers, these five units were “tailor-made” by McLaren Special Operations and feature decor inspired by the McLaren F1 GTR that raced in the famous endurance race 25 years ago.

According to McLaren, each one of the copies took at least 800 hours to be painted by hand (!) and it was necessary to request special authorizations from companies such as Gulf, Harrods or the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) in order to recreate the logos of the sponsors of the cars that raced at Le Mans in 1995.

What else changes?

Against the rest Senna GTR There is no lack of news for these five (very) special units. Thus, on the outside there are also specific exhaust outlets, the five-arm wheels from OZ Racing and the golden brake calipers and suspension arms.

Inside we have a plate with the chassis number of the F1 GTR whose decoration serves as inspiration and there is also a engraved dedication with the 1995 race date, the names of the drivers of the respective “twin” car and the position in which they ended up.

Added to this is a competition steering wheel, gearshift paddles and control buttons in gold, leather door opening strips (there are no traditional handles) and embroidered headrests.

The mechanics have not been forgotten

Finally, in the mechanical chapter these McLaren Senna GTR LM also bring news. To start with, thanks to the adoption of parts produced with lighter materials, it was possible to achieve a reduction in engine weight of around 65%.

In addition, the 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 that animates the Senna GTR saw power rise to the 845 hp (plus 20 hp) and the torque curve has been revised, offering more torque at lower revs and allowing the red line to come in around 9000 rpm instead of the usual 8250 rpm.

With the promise that the five customers of these McLaren Senna GTR LMs will be able to drive them on the La Sarthe circuit where the 24 Hours of Le Mans are played on the day the race is played in 2021.

Like the Senna GTR, these McLaren Senna GTR LM cannot be used on public roads, as they are exclusive to the track. As for the price, that remains an open question, but we are betting that it should be well above the almost 2.5 million euros that the already exclusive McLaren Senna GTR costs.
