There is news in parking in Lisbon. What has changed?

Approved yesterday at a private meeting of the municipal executive, the new parking regulation for the city of Lisbon (officially called the General Regulation for Parking and Stopping on Public Roads) brings news for all tastes.

To start with, the three existing tariffs — the green one, which costs €0.80/hour; yellow which costs €1.20/hour and red €1.60/hour — brown and black fares will be added at a price of €2.00/hour and €3.00/hour, respectively.

Aimed at a set of central areas of the city, these new tariffs will allow parking for a maximum period of two hours in the places where they are applied.

Resident badge also has new features

As for the resident badge, the new parking regulation provides for a free EMEL resident badge if the household does not have any more. In areas where there is greater parking pressure, the price of the third resident badge will increase.

According to the Mobility Councilor, Miguel Gaspar, large families whose youngest child is up to two years old “will be able to ask for a parking space at their doorsteps”.

Finally, the new parking regulation also provides that residents will be able to park in the red tariff zones in the second zone of the label.

Another objective of the regulation now approved is to benefit those who choose not to have a car, allowing the parking of shared mobility vehicles in places intended for residents.

But there are more changes

With this new parking regulation, the City Council of Lisbon also intends to simplify access to the city's historic areas to “provide support to an sometimes aging population” or in the event of a visit.

Another of the objectives underlying the new regulation is inspection at night and at weekends by EMEL, all to encourage non-resident users to opt for underground parking.

According to the city council, “with the update of the rotation parking tariff, it is intended to adapt the needs of the demand for parking in the city of Lisbon, by visitors, residents and traders, to the existence of alternatives in more sustainable ways and to effective offer of parking spaces”.

Finally, the final draft of the new parking regulation brings with it "a set of provisions relating to loading and unloading in the city, also innovatively regulating the circulation and parking of vehicles related to the exercise of rental and sharing activities of driverless passenger vehicles , also called sharing“.
