Alfa Romeo, the brand of... SUV?!

Anonim

Giulia and Stelvio are the main calling cards of the new Alfa Romeo. A clear bet on the premium segment and, equally, on models with a global reach. But it seems to be increasingly unknown which future models will accompany the current ones, with the constant changes to the announced plans.

We have already reported here that there should be no successors for MiTo or Giulietta. Why? These are models belonging to segments where the European market is the only one that presents viable conditions to prosper.

Alfa Romeo's aim is to be a global premium brand. This implies developing models that are salable in all markets. Among others, North America and China stand out.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio

The resources of the Italian brand, currently limited, force very considered decisions about the next models.

You already know where this is going…

If there is one type of vehicle that seems to be successful all over the world, it is SUVs.

Alfa Romeo itself has already made its debut in SUVs with the Stelvio. But he won't be the only one. New rumors reinforce that what we saw in the last plan of the brand was correct. Future models will be SUVs.

Historically known for its sports and models with strong aesthetic appeal, dynamics and performance, at the end of this decade the most common type of car in the range of the Italian brand should be SUV.

The brand will add two new SUVs to its range, positioned above and below the Stelvio. Perhaps of greatest interest to the European market will be the proposal for the C-segment. The Giulietta may not have a successor, but its place in the segment is expected to be filled by an SUV, or rather a crossover. In other words, a model similar to the Mercedes-Benz GLA or the future BMW X2.

The second SUV will be bigger than the Stelvio and will have models like the BMW X5/X6 as its main rivals. It is likely that both derive from the Giorgio platform, the same that equips Stelvio and Giulia. Although doubts persist about the use of this base for the most compact proposal.

Alfa Romeo, also an SUV brand

SUV’s, SUV’s and more SUV’s… Also Alfa, in order to remain relevant, must embrace this new form of existence. And given the apparently infallible success of SUVs, which not only bring sales but also superior profitability, Alfa Romeo has, almost as an obligation, to follow this path.

Just look at the example of Porsche, or more recently, Jaguar. The latter already has in F-Pace, Stelvio's rival, its best-selling and most profitable model. It's something Alfa Romeo cannot be indifferent to.
