Cold Start. Welcome to the 1955 Paris Salon…

If we could go back in time and pick a moment out of the countless moments in the Paris Salon's 120-year history, this would definitely be our choice.

As with Back to the Future, we would go back to 1955 to watch, live and in color, as we reveal the then new Citron DS in Paris. Why DS?

Because it was probably the proverbial and biggest “rock in the pond” ever. It wasn't a prototype but a production car. Its unusual lines collided uncomfortably with the rest of the automobile panorama. It was bizarre, it was futuristic, it was unique… No car has ever seemed to advance the automotive industry in a new direction (compared to its time) on so many levels simultaneously — design, materials, technology — as the Citroën DS.

The impact of the Citroën DS was massive — in a 15-minute exhibition at the Paris Salon, 743 people ordered one; at the end of the 10 days of the Salon, that number had already reached 80 thousand. A fantastic number in an era where the internet was science fiction; and that it would only be beaten, 60 years later, by the Tesla Model 3.
