Mini Remastered. Does it look like a classic Mini? so see the inside

David Brown Automotive, it is worth clarifying, has nothing to do with Mr. David Brown from Aston Martin, who gave rise, so many decades ago, to the DB lineage in the British brand. The use of the same name is justified by the coincidence that the founder of David Brown Automotive (DBA) has the exact same name as the former owner of Aston Martin.

Perhaps it's ironic that its first creation was the Speedback GT, introduced in 2014. A large GT coupe that takes up the style of the… Aston Martin DB5 and DB6.

The next chapter in the DBA's story couldn't be more different. Like Singer's “re-imagined” Porsche 911, David Brown applied the same principles to the most iconic of city dwellers, Sir Alec Issigonis's Mini. The aptly named Mini Remastered has been comprehensively revised. Bodywork, mechanics and interior received the attention of those responsible for David Brown Automotive.

On the outside, the clean appearance of the seamless bodywork stands out, uniting its panels and meticulous paintwork. The bodywork received new, reinforced panels and even gained civilized levels of soundproofing. It is also distinguished by having a unique grille and new optics, highlighting the rear optics which are the furthest away from the original.

To motivate the little Mini, DBA uses reconditioned four-cylinder 1275cc units that powered the Cooper S and 1275 GT. The engine can have various stages of preparation, with announced powers of 79 and 99 horsepower for the Inspired by Cafe Racers and Inspired by Monte Carlo special editions, respectively. Associated with these thrusters is a four-speed manual transmission.

DBA also promises changes to the chassis, although these have not been specified. The Mini Remastered weighs about 740 kg,

A Mini with Apple Car Play

The Mini Remastered interior is definitely where we can see the biggest changes. Describing a classic Mini with an infotainment system, bluetooth and USB/Aux input inside the glove box is unprecedented. The infotainment system – which includes the Apple Car Play – stands out, comprising a 7″ touchscreen, occupying a prominent position on the instrument panel.

The interior gains technological content and a more careful presentation, with a focus on tactile experience. Various types of leather cover the interior, the buttons are now made of aluminum, the door panels are new and it gets a new Mota-Lita steering wheel. It also gets new seats, both at the front and at the rear. As you'd expect, there's plenty of room for customization. From colors, to coatings, to rims.

How much does this eccentricity cost?

Well, we don't have good news here. The extensive, meticulous and time-consuming work, translating into over 1000 hours of labor, is reflected in the price. This amounts to 82 thousand euros, plus euro minus euro. That's a considerable sum for a Mini. But next to the Speedback GT it even seems like a bargain, as it amounts to more than 700 thousand euros.

Production of the small Mini Remastered will run in the 50 to 100 units per year. The two initial special editions “Inspired by” will be produced in about 25 units each. The public presentation will take place at Top Marques in Monaco in late April.
