The Retromobile Salon in Paris is not just an exhibition of vintage vehicles. Every year, during the event, several auction houses take the opportunity to take the most beautiful machines to the auction. So let's take a tour of the best sellers of the RM Auctions auction.

Let's start with one of the jewels in this auction: the 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder. A machine capable of developing 1100 horsepower with its 12-cylinder boxer engine, 5L of displacement and 2 KKK turbos. This model has a fully documented track record.

Among some peculiarities, it should be noted that this is the last chassis, out of a total of four 917/30 chassis built by Weissach. This beautiful competition history was sold by some magnificent €2,000,000 . Values aside, this is a living piece of racing history and a sporting and technological milestone for Porsche.

The Porsche 962 is an iconic model that needs no introduction. We are facing a model who, in the mythical race of Le Mans in 82, occupied the three podium places. Fully documented, this Porsche 962 is one of 10 models produced by the Porsche team in 1982. At auction, the sale of this Le Mans icon was due to 2,352,000€.

Continuing to "walk" the excellence of Porsche, the RM Auctions auction treated the public with an outsider: the recently restored 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, with its 2.0L flat six and 185 horsepower, a machine with delicious singing , the result of vocal appendages from the dual carburetion Webber 46 IDM.

This Porsche 904 was the first to be exported to the UK and curiously it is the only Porsche 904 with the Irish Green color. This 904 was owned by one of the Frazer Nash Works pilots Dickie Stoop. The Porsche 904 GTS set a record in this auction, pulling its sales value to €1.288,000.

But if you think you've seen all the stars, wait just a little longer because the cherries on the cake are yet to come.

One of the most important Jaguars in history, due to its responsibility in asserting the brand in the competition, was also present at the auction. We're talking about the passionate 1955 Jaguar D-Type, equipped with block No. E2021-9: a 3.8l inline 6 cylinder with around 300 horsepower.

This D-Type is in 10/10 condition, that is, fully original and documented. It is the 7th unit produced for approval at the 24H of Le Mans and was handed over to the care of Australian pilot Bib Stillwell, who raced with it. In 1970 it was owned by Richard Attwood, winner of the Le Mans 24H race. The big surprise of this D-Type in the auction was its record value, the highest value ever paid for a D-Type. We speak of a total of €3,696.000.

The French fleet was also present at the auction with a very rare representative! So rare that there were those who thought that this model only existed in photography. But it was proved otherwise, we speak of the legendary Gordini Type 24 S from 1953, animated by a 3L block with 8 cylinders in line and 265 horsepower.

This Gordini is considered one of the best classic sports cars with a 3L engine and was one of the first competition cars to mount brake discs on 4 wheels. The record at Gordini is vast, he participated in the main disciplines of motorsport, and this unit in particular was used by the pilot Jean Behra. A historical sale value for a Gordini, which amounted to €2,500,000.

Finally, we have an Italian specialty. As it should be, an auction of rarities must have a Ferrari. In this case we are talking about the brilliant 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Spider by Scaglietti. A model with the 3L block and 260 horsepower of 4 cylinders in line, designed by the engineer Aurelio Lampredi. The record of this Ferrari is enviable: 5th place overall in the Sebring 24H in 1955 and a number of first places in competition, at the hands of legendary drivers like Phil Hill and Carroll Shelby. This Ferrari is fully documented by Ferrari classics consultant Marcel Massini. More than enough condiments to pull some worth €1,960,000 at auction.
