Land Rover Employees Say Goodbye to Defender

It already is. The latest model of the Land Rover Defender has already left the Solihull production line. On such a special occasion, Land Rover decided to invite the 700+ employees as well as former employees of the Solihull facility to attend the moment.

At the same time, Land Rover announced a new Heritage restoration program that will utilize the existing Solihull assembly line. A team of experts, made up of some of the longest-serving employees responsible for creating the Defender, will oversee the restoration of the various Land Rover Series vehicles from around the world. The first vehicles will go on sale in July 2016.

Today we celebrate all the work of several generations of men and women since the day the Land Rover sketch was drawn in the sand. The Land Rover Series, today the Defender, are the origin of our legendary performance: a vehicle that makes the world the best place, often in the most extreme conditions. There will always be a very special place in our heart for Defender, but this is not the end. We have a glorious past and a wonderful future ahead.

Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover

The latest model of the current Defender includes the original part that has been part of every series since 1948: the special hook for the hood. This unit will be included in the Jaguar Land Rover collection.

Land Rover lovers will be able to share their most memorable journeys behind the wheel of Series I, II and III or Defender on the online platform, 'Defender Journeys', launched this morning by the British brand, as well as read the history and the complete route of the Land Rover Defender assembly line.
