BMW "will be ready" for a possible ban on combustion engines as early as 2030

BMW will be ready for any ban on combustion-engine cars, even if that happens as early as nine years from now, in 2030, said Oliver Zipse, the executive director of the Bavarian brand.

Remember that the European Union proposed a ban on cars powered by fossil fuels from 2035, as part of a broader package of measures aimed at combating global warming. However, even in a hypothetical scenario where this decision — which is not yet final — was brought forward as early as 2030, BMW would be ready to change.

“We will be ready for the ban on ICEs. If a region, a city or a country has the idea of banning ICE, we have an offer,” Zipse said at a conference in the German city of Nuertingen, near Stuttgart, quoted by Automotive News.

“The BMW Group is not worried about this. Whether it's a good idea or not is another question… but we'll have an offer,” added Zipse.

Remember that BMW has not yet set a date for the end of production of cars with combustion engines, unlike “rivals” such as Audi or Mercedes-Benz. However, it has already admitted that it expects that in 2030 50% of its global sales will be electric.

It is important to remember that the range of electric cars from the Munich brand currently has four proposals: i3, i4, iX3 and iX, which Diogo Teixeira has already tested on video.

In the coming years BMW's range of 100% electric proposals will grow with electric versions of the X1, 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series.
