The mythical Opel GT could return

According to the CEO of the German brand, Opel is preparing a concept that will leave fans awestruck.

Anyone who doesn't know history is surprised by it, so let's start there: with history. The Opel GT first appeared in 1965 as a mere exercise in design. The acceptance was so great that Opel released a production version three years later. Result: more than 100,000 units sold in the first five years.

After a hiatus of 34 years, Opel introduced in 2007 the second generation of the Opel GT. With the exception of the overly large steering wheel, the new Opel GT had everything in place: rear-wheel drive, roadster bodywork and a powerful 2.0 turbo engine with 265hp. However, with the closure of the factory in Wilmington, USA, the GT was no longer produced.

With the declarations of Karl-Thomas Neumann, CEO of the German brand, announcing the presentation of a sports concept at the next Geneva Motor Show, it is speculated that Opel is preparing a new GT. In what format? We do not know. Although the platform is the same as the new Opel Astra, the design of the eventual new Opel GT will be completely different, with a front inspired by the Opel Monza (in the pictures).

Under the hood will be a four-cylinder gasoline engine with a power of around 295 hp. If confirmed, the concept will reach production lines in 2018.

There is no official information yet, but according to Autobild magazine, this is a personal project by Karl-Thomas Neumann himself. In the video you can see below, the CEO of the German brand reveals that he has been planning a special concept for the Geneva Motor Show.
