Lamborghini Miura P400 SV Goes Up for Auction: Who Gives More?

An excellent copy of the 1972 Lamborghini Miura goes up for auction early next month. The perfect motto to write a few lines about the first modern supercar.

The success story of the Lamborghini Miura began at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, where it was presented to the world press. The world immediately surrendered to the Miura's beauty and technical specifications – praise began to pour in from all over, as well as orders. Two more prototypes of the Miura were built and shortly afterwards production began, still in 1966.

No wonder, we were facing the unveiling of the first modern supercar. The Lamborghini Miura is considered the “father” of modern supercars: V12 engine, center layout and rear-wheel drive. Formula that is still used today in the best sports cars in the world – forgetting the electric motors in some proposals.

The V12 engine in rear center position with four Weber carburetors, five-speed manual transmission and independent front and rear suspension made this car something revolutionary, as did its 385 horsepower.

The design was in the hands of Marcello Gandini, an Italian who excelled in the attention to detail and aerodynamics of his cars. Superb! With a seductive yet intimidating silhouette, the Lamborghini Miura broke hearts in the automotive world. It was such a popular car that it could be seen in the garages of famous personalities like Miles Davis, Rod Stewart and Frank Sinatra.

Despite having been the brand's standard bearer for seven years, its production ended in 1973, at a time when the brand was struggling with financial problems.

The Miura is now back in the spotlight thanks to a restoration team led by Valentino Balboni – Lamborghini ambassador and famous test-driver for the brand -, who managed to recover a unique specimen. Balboni and his team kept the body, chassis, engine and even the original colors. As for the interior, it was renovated by Bruno Paratelli with black leather, maintaining its classic appearance.

The Lamborghini Miura in question, described as the most beautiful specimen in the world, will be available for auction from RM Sotheby's on December 10th. Bidding starts at two million euros. Who gives more?
