There has never been an Audi Coupé RS2… but this "RS2" is for sale

Anonim

As we all know, the Audi RS2 Avant was the first, unusual, and landmark chapter of RS history in the ring brand. Although at the time there was an Audi Coupé, perhaps the most obvious candidate for it, if only because of its link to the dominating 80s Audi quattro in rallying, what is certain is that there never was one. Audi Coupé RS2.

The Audi Coupé culminated in the S2 version, which was also available in the Audi 80 saloon and Avant — the starting point for the RS2 Avant.

The owner of this 1990 Audi Coupé quattro, resident in the United States of America, wanted to correct this “injustice”, put his hands to work, and transformed his machine to look like the Audi Coupé RS2 that should have accompanied the RS2 Avant.

“O” Audi Coupé RS2

On the outside, the RS2 “look” is guaranteed by the new front bumper, grille, headlights, turn signals and mirrors identical to the RS2 Avant; by the rear bumper of a Coupe S2; and also for the intense blue of the “painting”… which is not. The leather is made of vinyl (Avery Dennison Intense Gloss Blue) covering the original Pearl White color of this Audi Coupé quattro.

The 18” wheels, on the other hand, end up being a little out of character, as their design mimics those of the very latest Audi RS5 (they are not original items).

The modifications, however, are far more extensive than those that are visible. Like the RS2 Avant, the Audi Coupé S2 was never sold in the US, so this Coupé quattro saw its original 2.3 l block replaced by a rebuilt 2.2 turbocharged penta-cylinder — just like the RS2 — from the US by all indications, from a 1991 Audi 200.

The 2.2 was not unscathed, having received multiple modifications, including several items from the RS2, such as the turbo and the exhaust and intake manifolds. Originally, in the Audi 200, this engine had 220 hp, now there must be many more, but no final value has been put forward.

The manual gearbox is not the original one, it is a new six-speed unit, the 01E for the brand's quattro TDI models. Like the clutch, a South Bend Stage 2 is certainly better suited to handling the engine's extra horses.

In addition to the larger wheels already mentioned — with five pegs against the original four, another one of the transformations carried out — they are surrounded by Pirelli P Zero tires measuring 225/40 and also feature H&R spacers measuring 10 mm. The suspension is now of the coilover type, and the braking system has been augmented with front discs coming from an Audi A8 and behind an Audi A4.

Inside, the standard gray interior has been adorned with black leather components, as well as a roof covering that incorporates black plastic elements from the Audi S2. You can also see carbon fiber elements, and the three-spoke steering wheel comes from an S2.

There are many more changes made to the coupé to transform it into an Audi Coupé RS2, and you can see them all in the original sales announcement on the Bring a Trailer. In addition to the car itself, it is sold with spare parts (original Audi Coupé parts) and has all maintenance service records.
