"Muscle car" for curves. Chris Harris' Camaro Z/28 Up for Auction

Anonim

Petrolhead who is petrolhead has to have some love for pure “American muscle”. Chris Harris is no different, and in your case, it came in the form of a Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 2015 and its huge and ironically called "small block" LS7 Naturally aspirated V8 with 7008 cm3 (505 hp and 652 Nm) of capacity or a very American 427 ci (cubic inches).

The Camaro Z/28 is the equivalent of the GT3 in a 911 — yes, a “muscle car” for… circuits — and at the time, to prove its dynamic skills, Chevrolet sent it to “green hell“, where it did. a respectable time of 7min37.47s — not bad, not bad at all…

Was this the reason for Harris' interest in the Camaro? Who knows… We leave some clues:

Z/28, the Camaro GT3

As mentioned, the Z/28 is the GT3 of the Camaro. The LS7, co-developed with Corvette Racing, however, is complemented with a TREMEC TR6060 six-speed manual gearbox — old school…, as we like it. It's not just the LS7 V8 that impresses with its strength and voice, the chassis shines at the same level.

Equipped with competition-derived Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers, all other suspension components have been overhauled — everything has gotten a lot firmer — it has fatigue-proof carbon-ceramic brakes, huge 305/30 ZR19 tires, both front and rear, and there was no lack of a self-locking differential.

The aerodynamics have been profoundly revised: front splitter, rear diffuser, more pronounced rear wing, new panels for a flatter bottom. Result: 186 kg of downforce at 240 km/h.

It was also lightened. Less soundproofing, the trunk liner has been removed and the rear window is 9% thinner. Unsuspended masses were also reduced — new forged wheels, the aforementioned carbon-ceramic brakes and even tires all contributed to this result. In the end, the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 was 130 kg lighter than the ZL1, the most powerful of the Camaro — still charged a substantial 1732 kg.

Chris Harris' Camaro Z/28

Harris' Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 was imported into the UK by Litchfield Motors in 2015, and would be purchased by him in 2017, with just 223 miles on the odometer (359 km). It currently marks 7962 miles, the equivalent of 12 813 km.

According to the seller, Collecting Cars, the Harris copy is very well preserved. There is no damage to the paintwork, all in black, nor to the interior linings, where you can find Recaro leather seats and suede center panels.

The “muscle car” remains original, having been maintained by Litchfield Motors, with the last revision taking place in December 2018.

The bidder who wins this piece of “American”, will also have the bonus of being invited to a circuit (England), where the Camaro Z/28 will be delivered by Chris Harris himself, along with some fast laps… and probably from side, with the well-known presenter.

At the time of publication of this article, the auction had not yet started, nor was there an estimate of how much Collecting Cars expects to sell the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 that belonged to Chris Harris.
