22-year-old man turns MINI into a "beast" with Honda VTEC engine

Among four-cylinder engines, there is one that holds a special place in the heart of all — or nearly all … — petrolheads. The famous B16 Honda VTEC engine in its most different configurations.

A small but powerful four-cylinder atmospheric engine with a specific power of 100hp/liter. We can even talk about a cult engine that became popular through the Honda Civic, in the early 90's, and has been the delight of thousands of fans of modifications until today.

Affordable, robust, reliable and powerful, it was the engine that Ollie, a 22-year-old Brit, chose when it came to breathing new life into his old MINI. Result? More than 360 hp of power and a look to match.

The modifications

To go up from the original 160 hp to the current 360 hp, the engine underwent several modifications. One of the most visible — if only because of the position it's in — was the adoption of a turbo GT3076R, totally revised injection system, large intercooler and some internal parts revised, while others were adapted.

Because what gains speed also (should…) slow down, this «Super-MINI» received specific 13-inch wheels, with competition tires and a Wilwood braking system.

Inside, nothing was left to chance. This MINI is now equipped with sports seats by Recaro and a steering wheel from the Italian brand MOMO, among other exclusive details made using fiber.

It won't stop here… all-wheel drive!

For now, this MINI remains a FWD. But Ollie wants his MINI to be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and the engine to reach 500 hp. As far as Honda engines are concerned, there is no shortage of examples of successful 'mission impossibles'.
