Mercedes: New Mercedes ML63 AMG

After Mercedes has presented a few weeks ago the facelift operated on the ML model, in Frankfurt lands, the brand is now disclosing the first photos of the more tawdry version of the model: the AMG version that will be presented at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Event chosen for the first public appearance of the model since the US is the world's largest market for this type of car.

As expected, the ML 63 AMG will come equipped with the 5.5 l twin-turbo V8 engine already known from the most powerful versions of the brand, and which develops 518 hp and 71.3 kgfm. Engine that has gradually replaced the old 6.3-litre block across the entire AMG range, and which is once again available for service coupled to the 7-speed AMG SpeedShift Plus.

When compared to the previous model, the 2012 version adds just 15 more horsepower to the ML's cattle ranch, but on the other hand, the whole “herd” is more contained in appetite: the new engine presents gains in fuel savings of around 33 %. Acceleration remains astonishing considering the model's more than two tonnes: from 0-100 km/h the ML takes just 4.7 seconds. The maximum speed – electronically limited – amounts to 250km/h despite this model's aerodynamics as refined as a… brick! Those who are not satisfied with such generous performances can opt for the AMG Performance Package Kit, which increases the maximum power to 550hp and raises the maximum speed to 283km/h.

In the field of the specific equipment of this AMG version, have the usual recipe. Tires of biblical proportions accompanied by gigantic brakes; an adaptive suspension called Active Body Control that works to counteract the natural adornment of the bodywork; four exhaust outlets and more prominent bumpers. Inside, the leather and Alcantara are the delight of the pilot.

Appreciate it, because this could very well be the last ML63 AMG powered solely by gasoline.

A clearly endangered species…
