What if we could charge the car battery in just 5 minutes?

When we talk about electric vehicles, one of the brands' usual assets is the autonomy – which already reaches 300 km in some utility vehicles and small family members -, but not always the full charging time of the batteries, which in some cases even exceeds 24 hours in a conventional outlet.

And that's precisely where StoreDot wants to make a difference. The Israeli company brought a revolutionary solution to the CUBE technology fair in Berlin, which goes by the name of FlashBattery . The name says it all: the goal is to create a battery capable of charging almost instantly.

Without wanting to reveal too many details about this technology, StoreDot explains that FlashBattery uses a "combination of layers of nanomaterials and organic compounds", and that unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries it does not contain graphite, a material that does not allow charging fast.

As you can see in the video above, FlashBattery consists of several cartridges that make up a module. The modules are then combined to create the battery pack. As for autonomy, StoreDot promises 482 km in a single charge.

“The technology currently available requires long charging periods, which makes 100% electric forms of transport unsuitable for the general public. We are exploring some solutions with our strategic partners in the automotive industry to help us get production started on the Asian continent and achieve high volumes of production as quickly as possible.”

Doron Myersdorf, CEO of StoreDot

This technology is at an advanced stage of development, and the plan is to introduce FlashBattery into a production model in three years' time. In addition to automobiles, it may also be used in mobile phones, computers and other devices.
