There are still some market niches that remain immune to the crisis. The BMW i8 is part of that universe.
The first hybrid sports car of the German brand, the BMW i8, does not want to know about the crisis for nothing. It has just been released and the production for the next 12 months has already been fully sold.
The price of the second and most powerful member of the «i» family has not yet been released in Portugal, but it is expected that the final price will never fall below 200 thousand euros.
For now, what is known are the sporting credentials of this 'electrifying' Bavarian. The BMW i8 will come equipped with the small 1.5 TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 231hp and 320Nm of maximum torque. The electric unit also presents satisfactory numbers, announcing 131hp and 250Nm distributed to the front axle. Working together, these two engines offer a combined power of 361hp and 570Nm of maximum torque and all-wheel drive.
Power that allows the BMW i8 to reach 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds in a race that only ends when the pointer hits 250km/h.
The autonomy in electric mode is 35 km, with speed limited to 120 km/h. However, according to the German brand, in hybrid mode the autonomy can reach 500 km. The average consumption in the first hundred kilometers is only 2.5L/100 with the batteries fully charged. Each charge cycle takes just an hour and a half on a 220V fast charger , or three and a half on a 110V outlet.
With capacity for four occupants, this "green" sports car also stands out for its practical aspect. It is a case of saying: with so many convincing premises, the search is not surprising.
