The second generation of the German sports car promises a significant increase in power and breath-taking performance.

If there were any doubts about the future of BMW, it seems that the electrification of its vehicles will be at the top of the priorities of the engineers of the Munich brand. Who says so is Georg Kacher, a source close to the brand, assuring that the electrification can start already with the flagship of the i range, the hybrid BMW i8.

The current version of the German sports car is equipped with a 1.5 TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder block with 231 hp and 320 Nm, which is accompanied by a 131 hp electric unit. In total, there are 362 hp of combined power, which allow accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and 250 km/h of top speed, while the consumption announced is at 2.1 liters per 100 km.

In this new generation, the hybrid engine will be replaced by three electric motors with a total power of 750 hp on four wheels. Thanks to a larger capacity lithium battery pack, everything indicates that the German model will have more than 480 kilometers of autonomy. The launch of the BMW i8 is not expected until 2022, as is the arrival of the new BMW i3. Before that, the latest rumors suggest the presentation of a new model from the i range – which can be called the i5 or i6 – already with autonomous driving technology.
