New driving license renewal services, address changes and medical certificates are some of the new features of IMT for 2017.
This week, a new online counter came into operation at the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT), through which it is possible to renew or replace driving licenses.This new online service is one of the novelties integrated in the “Carta sobre Rodas” project of the Simplex program. In addition to greater convenience, those who choose this service enjoy a 10% discount , while those who prefer to go to an IMT counter pay 30 euros to renew or replace their driving license.

Another new feature for 2017 is the end of the obligation to notify the IMT of the change of address , starting to present the address that is registered on the citizen's card. From now on, the information regarding the driver's address will be removed from the face of the driver's license, leaving only this information in the IMT database.
Also, the validity period of driving licenses increases from 10 to 15 years for drivers up to 60 years of age. In other cases, the deadlines remain unchanged.
Finally, the medical certificates – which are only necessary for revalidations of 60 years or later – will be transmitted electronically by the Ministry of Health to the IMT, thus allowing the automatic recording of the medical assessment carried out to the driver. This measure only takes effect in April.
