The revision of the Highway Code will take effect before the summer and one of the new features will be the points-based driving license that will come into force next year.
João Almeida, Secretary of State for Internal Administration, confirmed to Diário Económico that the revision of the Highway Code will take place before the summer: “The bill is closed, it has been sent to official entities and we already had a Council meeting last week. The way in which the system will work in Portugal is not yet closed, but it will be similar to what already exists in Spain and France, which grants drivers a number of starting points that decrease with infringements. “The number that is in the proposal is 12 points, something that may still change depending on the debate on the Government's legislative process in the Assembly”, said João Almeida.
