Mercedes-Benz 560 SL AMG by Michael Schumacher on sale for 295,000 euros

Auctioneer Classic Driver has put up for sale one of the three Mercedes-Benz 560 SL AMG developed by the German preparer.

Before becoming the official Mercedes-Benz preparer, AMG independently modified several vehicles of the Stuttgart brand for nearly 30 years. One of these models was precisely the Mercedes-Benz 560 SL, successor to the W113 and therefore a model with a history to defend.

As such, in 1986 AMG developed three extremely rare specimens, with eye-opening specifications (at least for the time) and sporting spirit. In fact, the main highlight was the engine: the German preparer replaced the atmospheric V8 block of 5.6 liters and 230 hp with an engine with the same number and arrangement of cylinders but with 6 liters of capacity and 331 hp of power. This particular model is believed to have been in the possession of motor racing legend Michael Schumacher – imagine him on an Autobahn at over 200 km/h…

More recently, the Mercedes-Benz 560 SL AMG was restored by Pano Avramidis, a former AMG engineer, and is in such good condition that the odometer has reset to zero, now reading 1699 km. In addition, the German model gained leather interiors that combine with the exterior paint and wood finishes. Those interested in this model will have to spend €295,000.
