A Tesla Model 3 with a "traditional" dashboard? It is already possible

Anonim

Whether for cost or design considerations or any other reason, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y forgo traditional instrument panels behind the steering wheel.

Its functions are brought together in the huge central screen, with the speedometer appearing in the upper left corner of the screen as well as the battery charge level.

Despite the modern look that this solution gives to the interior of Tesla models, the truth is that it is not free from criticism nor is it pleasing to all customers of the American brand. For this reason, some companies have already dedicated themselves to “solving the problem”.

The solutions found

One of the companies that set out to create an instrument panel for the Tesla was the Chinese Hansshow, which created a 10.25” touchscreen that is placed on the steering column and costs between around 548 to 665 euros.

With a GPS receiver and Android operating system, to connect this screen to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y it is necessary to remove the upper part of the steering column and connect it to the car's data cable. In addition to the “qualities” of this screen, we also find a speaker and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Hansshow screen measures 10.25”.

For those who prefer a more classic look, the ideal solution might be the proposal by the company Topfit. Priced at around 550 euros, this instrument panel features two round dials and a central dial.

As in Hansshow's proposal, to install it it is necessary to dismantle part of the steering column. In both cases, the new instrument panels display information such as speed, range, outside temperature, tire pressure and even warnings from the driving assistance systems.

There is the cable that has to be connected to the steering column.

Finally, for those who don't miss a traditional instrument panel but would like to have the central screen in another position, Hansshow also has a solution: a rotating support for the screen.

With a cost of around 200 euros, this allows the center panel to rotate and face more towards the driver, not interfering with the software updates that Tesla normally undergo.

Hansshow found a way to “move” the central panel.

Speaking of software updates, these can be one of the main “enemies” of these dashboards. Is that whenever Tesla performs an update these systems may stop working.

What matters is that both Hansshow and Topfit end up creating their own updates to correct the “problem”.
