Cold Start. T.50 from Gordon Murray. Hear the scream of your… 3 cylinders!? Where's the V12?

Anonim

On the occasion of the launch of a new website dedicated to the new Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 (hopefully it gains a more… big name), a short film was published that lets us “peek” the development of the new supercar and, of course, they would have to start with the engine.

However — surprise — what we see and hear is not what we expected V12 naturally aspirated, 3.9 l and 650 hp at… 12 100 rpm(!) (700 hp with “ram air” effect) from the T.50, but something much smaller, a furious and shrill three-cylinder in a row. The question is, why?

Simple. THE cosworth applied the same “recipe” to the V12 of the T.50 that he had already applied to the V12 of the Aston Martin Valkyrie that he is also developing.

To speed up the process, they started by adapting a block of four cylinders, but with only three functional cylinders (imagine the V12 as if it had four separate modules of three cylinders each), to serve as a test “mule” that will serve to validate all the performance and emissions targets.

The most interesting thing is that we see in the film the recording of this three cylinders with less than 1.0 l exceeding 12 100 rpm to deliver more than 150 hp!
