Valkyrie is the divine name for Aston Martin's hypersports

Known until now as Aston Martin AM-RB 001, the new hyper sports car ascends to the gods to choose its final name: Valkyrie.

The new hypersport that joins Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies already has an official name. Until now known by its codename AM-RB 001, it will have the official name of Valkyrie.

The name continues the tradition of the British brand's “V” cars that began in 1951, with the selection of the Vantage name associated with a more performance variant of the Aston Martin DB2. It would appear as an emblem for the first time on the side of the DB5, and already in this century, it would be a model with a proper name.

The “V” lineage is clear when we mention its other elements: Virage, Vanquish and Vulcan. The latter to reveal a similar analogy to the world of gods, where Vulcan is the name of the god of fire.

Valkyrie, according to Marek Reichman, creative director of Aston Martin, perfectly captures the dramatic effect of what is not only the ultimate Aston Martin, but also the ultimate expression in hypersports, whether in design, engineering or performance.

The Aston Martin names have a deep meaning. They have to inspire and excite. They have to tell a story and enrich a narrative that spans 104 years. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is an incredibly special car that also demands a notable name; an uncompromised car that leaves nothing in reserve. The connotations of power and honor in being chosen by the Gods are so evocative and so pertinent to a car that only a lucky few will experience it.

The name may be rooted in Norse mythology, but the Aston Martin Valkyrie is a pure expression of today's technology.

It promises a power-to-weight ratio of just one pound for each horse. It is expected that both weight and power will be around the number 1000. Propulsion will be carried out through a 6.5 liter V12 developed by Cosworth. It has no turbos or superchargers. It will have a coupled electrical unit, developed by Rimac. The transmission will be seven speeds, developed by Ricardo.

The Valkyrie promises to be a new reference in the hypersports universe. A reference that is already threatened by a project with similar purposes by Mercedes-AMG, the R50. A duel definitely not to be missed!
