Already preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary on May 24, 2022, the BMW M created, or rather recovered, the iconic “BMW Motorsport” logo, used for the first time in 1973 on a racing car from the then “BMW Motorsport GmbH”.

It is formed by the BMW logo that appears surrounded by several semicircles in blue, dark blue and red. The big difference to the 1973 logo is the dark blue tone, which was previously violet.

As for colors, blue represents BMW, red the world of competition and violet (now dark blue) the link between them.

BMW M Logo

The BMW M1, launched in 1978, brought with it the BMW M logo that we know so well, but it was still faithful to the logo debuted in 1973. It was the only production model to have combined the two.

The new logo can be ordered from January 2022 and will be available not only on BMW M models but also on models equipped with the M Sport pack produced from March 2022. In addition to appearing on the hood, this logo will also be present on the trunk and wheel hubs.

Exclusive colors are also new

In addition to the new logo, BMW M also unveiled 50 exclusive colors inspired by various eras of the BMW M. Offered on selected models in 2022, we can find among them the shades “Dakar Yellow”, “Fire Orange”, “Daytona Violet”, “ Macao Blue”, “Imola Red” or “Frozen Marina Bay Blue”.

Regarding the historic logo, BMW M Director Franciscus van Meel said: “With the classic BMW Motorsport emblem we would like to share our joy at the BMW M anniversary with the brand's fans”.

As for the remaining plans for celebrating the half-century of BMW M van Meel said: “We have a great year ahead, which will be celebrated with exclusive products. The “M” has long been considered the strongest letter in the world and, in our company's anniversary year, it's stronger than ever.”

Among the new features planned is the unveiling, on November 29, of the BMW XM, still as a prototype, which will be the first independent model of the “M” since the M1; and the launch in 2022 of the unprecedented BMW M3 Touring, one of the most anticipated models of the “M”.

Looking ahead to 2021, BMW's sports division is aiming for a new sales record with its models growing in popularity around the world.
